I welcome top-quality guest posts on How to Be Amazing.

Requirements

To be accepted, your guest post must be:

  • Relevant to the site’s personal development theme
  • Substantial (in the range 500-2000 words)
  • Significant (if you do a list post, it needs to be more than just a list)
  • Practical or inspirational (either show readers a technique or an example of how to be amazing)
  • Fresh (not duplicate content or something that’s been said a thousand times)
  • Unusual (for example, based on a piece of research looked at in a new way, or addressing a topic that’s rarely covered)
  • Non-obvious (not something any intelligent person can figure out without the post)
  • Literate (not needing basic copy editing)
  • To the point (not rambling)
  • Engaging (using story, metaphor, example and/or vivid, vigorous language, not dry and factual)
  • Broadly appealing (the post and any website you link to should be accessible to a general audience and free of crackpot theories)
  • Something I couldn’t have written myself.

Keep the name of the site in mind. Your post title doesn’t have to start with “how to”, but it should be able to – in other words, it must be practical and immediately applicable in people’s real lives. And it should be focussed on helping the readers to be amazing in some way.

I turn down posts that don’t meet those standards or that I feel do not fit for any other reason.

Have a look at my Start Here page to get an idea of the main themes I’m interested in exploring.

Submission process

Query me first, before submitting your post. So that I can pick it out of my busy inbox, give your email a subject line in the form “Guest post proposal: [your proposed title]“.

Please provide links in the body of your email to the website that you would like the post to link to, and to your blog if that’s not the same place, so I can check out your work. If you have done other guest posts, please link to one or two of those as well.

I favour bloggers who have personal development blogs themselves that would be of interest to my people. Neither you nor I will get much benefit from a guest post that points to a blog on a completely unrelated topic.

Describe the post you propose, and if I think it will work for my audience I’ll ask you to submit it.

Promotion

You can have two links at the end of the post. I don’t mind if these are SEO links (as long as the sentences make grammatical sense and the phrases are appropriate and relevant). You can write them in such a way that they form the last paragraph of the post rather than being a separate “resource box” if you like.

I ask that you promote your post to your social media followers/fans and that you respond to any comments on the post.

Submission address

Send submissions to: guestpost at howtobeamazing.com, but please, only if you have read and followed the guidelines above.
