The Decisionalyzer is a simple way to help you visualize what’s most important to you in a decision you’re trying to make.
Here’s how to use it:
- List the alternatives you’re trying to decide between down the left-hand side, in the column headed Options.
- Across the top, list the factors that play into your decision.
- Those factors probably aren’t equally important to you. Give each of them a weighting out of 10 (with 10 being all-important and 1 being completely unimportant), using the selectors next to each factor.
- Now, score each of your alternatives out of 10 for each factor. A high score means that factor favours that alternative.
- Click the Graph button. Whichever alternative is shown with the highest score is the ‘winner’ – according to you, it’s what you want to do most.
- If the result doesn’t satisfy you for some reason, play around with the scores and weightings and click Graph again.
- Consider: Could you change any of the factors? How would that affect the decision?
