The Decisionalyzer is a simple way to help you visualize what’s most important to you in a decision you’re trying to make.

Here’s how to use it:

  1. List the alternatives you’re trying to decide between down the left-hand side, in the column headed Options.
  2. Across the top, list the factors that play into your decision.
  3. Those factors probably aren’t equally important to you. Give each of them a weighting out of 10 (with 10 being all-important and 1 being completely unimportant), using the selectors next to each factor.
  4. Now, score each of your alternatives out of 10 for each factor. A high score means that factor favours that alternative.
  5. Click the Graph button. Whichever alternative is shown with the highest score is the ‘winner’ – according to you, it’s what you want to do most.
  6. If the result doesn’t satisfy you for some reason, play around with the scores and weightings and click Graph again.
  7. Consider: Could you change any of the factors? How would that affect the decision?
